Adult Safeguarding Training

If you would like training on adult safeguarding to help you identify and support people who may be at risk of abuse, we regularly run a range of courses. Most of our courses are free, however before you book onto them please contact us for more details.

Due to the current situation with regards to COVID 19, all face to face Safeguarding Adults Training has been cancelled. We appreciate that even in these difficult times staff will want to maintain their knowledge and skills and may need to access training in order to do this so we are happy to announce a new Safeguarding Adults Virtual Training Programme. We have planned a programme of courses, which will be delivered by Zoom.

 In the next few months we will be adding the following courses so please keep an eye out for dates etc.

Train the Trainer Course

Who is the course aimed at?

The course is open to all staff and volunteers who have a responsibility to provide, or have an interest in delivering safeguarding adults education and training in line with The Care Act 2014.

What will I learn?

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Assess a range of strategies utilised to establish learners’ needs
  • Outline the major theories of learning and assess how these impact on the design of training programmes
  • Assess assessment and evaluation tools
  • Discuss and analyse The Care Act 2014- Chapter 15- Safeguarding
  • Describe the South Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults policies and procedures and explain their role in the protection of adults (at risk) of abuse and neglect
  • Identify who may be an adult (at risk) and the Statutory Criteria for Decision Making (Sec 42(1))
  • Explain the principles of Making Safeguarding personal (MSP)
  • Explain and outline the Mental Capacity Act, capacity, consent and decision making
  • Outline the safeguarding enquiry options in line with MSP and when Sec 42 (2) enquiries may be undertaken
  • Describe the legislative frameworks available in safeguarding adults
  • Demonstrate the ability to design and deliver materials and methodology for Safeguarding Adult training session
  • Apply the learning to the design of Safeguarding Adult Training session
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and comprehension of virtual training and delivery.

 What does the course involve?

  • Delivered to delegates via Zoom- virtual attendance. The course will include how Zoom and Microsoft Teams work, trainer skills and utilising the tools within these platforms
  • Attendance of all 5 days of the course (it is divided into three modules- dates below) to pass the course.
  • Production and delivery of a “micro-teaching” session to your peers on day 5 of the course

 What will it cost?

Option 1- If you join the Sheffield Multi-agency Safeguarding Adults Training Pool- NO CHARGE.

(you will need to approval of your manager if applicable and you would need to sign a contract to deliver 3 sessions per year for a min of 2 years)

Option 2 - £300 for the five-day course, plus materials, plus an option to attend the network events organised as CPD events.

Module 2 – 26th and 27th April 2021– 9.30am – 4.30pm

Module 3- 10th May 2021- 9.30am-4.30pm (micro-teach day)

 Designated Safeguarding Adults Lead (2.5 hours)

(Equivalent to Level 3)

This is a new course on the Sheffield Safeguarding Adults Training Programme. This course is designed for organisations who have a staff working in the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead or Safeguarding Officer or Safeguarding Lead. It will focus on providing these nominated roles with the knowledge and skills to support staff to identify, report and record safeguarding concerns. It also looks at identifying what cases may meet the safeguarding criteria and how referrals should be made and the role of the designated person in any enquiries.

 This course will cover:

  • The Care Act- Statutory Criteria for Decision Making
  • The role of the Designated Safeguarding Adults Lead
  • Good practice in responding to Safeguarding concerns
  • How to raise a Safeguarding Concern

Conducting Effective Enquiries (One day- two modules. Both modules must be attended)

 This course is designed for staff who may be required to undertake Section 42(2) Safeguarding Enquiries within their own organisations. The course will cover:

  • Planning an enquiry
  • Gathering information and evidence
  • Evaluation information and evidence
  • Conducting structured conversations

Safeguarding Managers Course (One day- two modules. Both modules must be attended)

(Equivalent to Level 3)

This course is for Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Health and Social Care and Health Care staff who perform the role of Safeguarding Manager (Enquiry Lead). This cohort of staff are designated Safeguarding Managers in relation to the Care Act and legal duties.

Other organisations may have staff within roles as ‘Safeguarding Managers’. In this case the Designated Safeguarding Adults Lead course would be ideal for those staff.

This course covers:

  • Roles and responsibilities of Safeguarding Managers (Care Act)
  • The Care Act 2014 – Statutory Criteria for Decision Making
  • Manging and supporting staff undertaking a Safeguarding Sec 42(2) enquiry
  • Exiting the Safeguarding process
  • Role of the Safeguarding Manager in an Outcome Meeting
