Our Independent Chair
David Ashcroft has been the Independent Chair of both the Adults and Children Safeguarding Partnerships in Sheffield since April 2019. David brings a wealth of experience to his work in Sheffield, having previously been national Chair of the Association of Independent LSCB Chairs for three years, and he has also chaired boards/partnerships in South Tyneside, Manchester, Norfolk and Lincolnshire. He is currently Deputy Chair of the Lincolnshire Adults Safeguarding Partnership and leads on their Review and Learning work.
David is also the Independent Chair of the Regulatory Services and Safeguarding Committee of RNIB, working to ensure that the highest standards of service, safeguarding and performance are in place across both adults and children’s services for this major UK charity.
David has worked at a senior level in children’s and adults’ services for the past 30 years, including holding operational responsibility for all aspects of safeguarding in a number of local authorities. His public service career started as a manager responsible for the Community Care reforms in the 1990s, and he has managed services for older people and people with disabilities in both the statutory and voluntary sector. He was a trustee and Vice Chairman of Scope for a number of years, and has worked in inspection and improvement in education, health and social care.
David is an experienced author and chair of Children's Serious Case Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and Safeguarding Adult Reviews and has worked with many partnerships to tackle performance and improve practice learning. He advises a range of organisations on safeguarding issues and provides training and coaching as a consultant, mentor and advisor.
