Adult Safeguarding and Predatory Marriage

Predatory Marriage - Daphne Franks

Predatory marriage refers to a situation where someone marries a vulnerable individual, often an older person, primarily for financial gain. This exploitation can involve manipulating the vulnerable person into marriage, potentially revoking existing wills and leading to the predator inheriting the victim's estate. The term "predatory marriage" is increasingly used to describe this form of economic abuse and can also apply to civil partnerships. It is an emerging form of exploitation, with common features of coercion, control and financial abuse. The grooming process is often hidden in plain sight

Daphne Franks will share her first-hand, lived experience of Predatory Marriage, the safeguarding concerns around this and the challenges created when this happens to individuals and within families.
