Use of Restraint Framework
A restrictive practice (or restraint) is an action that prevents a person from doing something. They’re often used in health and social care settings to keep people safe from something that may cause them serious harm or distress and are also known as restraints. There are rules around when restrictive practices can be used and they should only be used as a last resort. They should never be used to punish someone, control someone or handle difficult behaviour.
This Restraints Framework for Good Practice endorsed by the Sheffield Adult Safeguarding Partnership Board (SASPB) sets out guidance for the prevention and management of the use of restraint across the health and social care community of Sheffield. It effectively sets the minimum standards that individual organisations must meet in ensuring statutory duties and a joined-up approach to protecting adults at risk are met.
